This week I did some cardio. There’s a full stop there because it’s literally been so long since I did some that it’s a sentence in and of itself. Sure, I like to stretch, I walk places, go dancing yada yada yada but I haven’t formalised my exercise all year. (Yup, I’m a health coach and I’ve had a sporadic exercise routine for months. Shock horror. I actually feel a little bit ashamed writing that down, but that’s the need for this piece, so keep reading...)Read More
This year will be a pretty big one for me. In the 12 months from January 2018 to January 2019 everything in my life (well, 99% of things) will be different. I’m about to move out of London after 7 years. In the time I’ve been here I’ve made countless friends, had 5 jobs, lived in 3 flats and despite saying I’ll be single for at least a year when I first moved, met the boy I would married within the first 6 months of being here and married him (not in the same year).
Truthfully, the first two years of being a Londoner, I hated it. London was too busy, too big, too noisy, too expensive and the people are rude. Now, London is still all those things but I love it. So why am I leaving?Read More
Recently I asked my Instagram fam how they felt in the changing season i.e from summer to autumn, and it seems that the shift from long days to colder nights brings about some hella relief from body insecurities. Summer is relentless in it’s messaging to ‘get a bikini body’ or don’t dare wear one (cheers diet culture). The hot weather invariably means either pushing yourself to show some skin or should that feel like a fate worse than death, sweating it out as best as you can.
Autumn is kinder. Autumn says, ‘oh hey jumpers and boots!’. It’s hot chocolate, root vegetables, woolly hats and it’s seeing what gems you might find the pocket when you put on your winter coat again (like discovering last year’s snotty tissues and an occasional fiver).Read More
You've probably heard the famous Kate Moss quote 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'. It is said in a way that keeps us in check every time we want to eat a mouthful of cake. Well, I'd like to shine a light on this toxic piece of advice because quite frankly, I’ve had enough of it being used as a way to shame our food choices. Body acceptance feels and tastes better than skinny feels.Read More
It’s officially summer! Who doesn’t love the extra long days, the feel of sunshine on our faces, fresh foods and perhaps even a chance of a holiday. All good things. But, among the joy there can be a LOT of challenges for those of us on this journey to body acceptance.
During summertime, we get bombarded with images of bikini clad gals and ripped torsos guys. Diet talk goes EVEN MORE mental as people feel the pressure to drop a dress size, get beach body ready and get rid of their ‘orange peel’ thighs. Ergh.
At summer, it's vital to keep those healthy boundaries around comments on our bodies.Read More
I've got a question for you. How often do you treating yourself like your best friend?
I reckon not as often as we need to be. We are often more cruel and say things to ourselves we wouldn’t dream of saying to anyone else ̶ especially when we're looking in the mirror! We can be our own worst enemy!Read More
